Airport celebrates terminal with water cannon salute
Friday, April 14, 2017 by Nina Hernandez
If you thought the Austin-Bergstrom International Airport was just going to mark its new South Terminal with a lousy ribbon-cutting ceremony, you’ve got another thing coming. Well, they did do a ribbon-cutting, but that was just the tip of the celebratory iceberg. To create a “festive atmosphere” at the grand opening, the airport put together a ribbon-cutting, a patio party and a water cannon – that’s right, we said water cannon – salute over Allegiant’s Austin-Albuquerque nonstop flight. No word from the passengers on whether or not they were warned in advance about the waterworks. The new terminal has a “stylish … mid-20th century interior design,” according to a Thursday press release, in addition to its own parking and amenities.
