Zimmerman running for SD14
Tuesday, May 12, 2020 by Elizabeth Pagano
Former District 6 Council Member Don Zimmerman has officially entered the race for the Senate District 14 seat, joining Rep. Eddie Rodriguez, who announced in April that he had filed paperwork to be placed on the ballot, and Travis County Judge Sarah Eckhardt, who resigned from her position in March but has stayed on as county judge during the Covid-19 pandemic. In his announcement, Zimmerman said “a key focus of his campaign will be keeping statewide bureaucracy accountable to the taxpayer, especially when it comes to the often arbitrary and draconian closing of businesses during the Covid-19 situation.” Zimmerman also promised to prioritize property rights, road-building, limiting local government spending and supporting responsive government. The special election to fill Sen. Kirk Watson’s seat is now scheduled for July 14.
