Monday, September 10, 2018 by Chad Swiatecki
The Austin chapter of Urban Land Institute recently announced the winners of its annual Impact Awards to recognize responsible use of land and leaders who help create and sustain thriving communities. The winners were: Best Project Innovation – Fareground at One Eleven; Best Project Design – Austin Central Library; Best Public Place – Republic Square Park; Most Influential Project – The Waterfront Oracle Campus; Next Big Idea – Reconnect Austin; Vision Award – Gary S. Farmer of Heritage Title Company; ULI Influence Award – Greg Weaver of Catellus Development Corporation; ULI Member of the Year – Chip Mills of RVi Planning & Landscape Architecture; ULI Young Leader of the Year – Caitlin Admire of Perkins + Will. The city’s new Central Library is on a streak capturing awards and plaudits, with Time magazine recently naming it one of the “World’s Greatest Places” and being chosen as the U.S. finalist among five selected for the Federation of Library Associations’ prize for Public Library of the Year. Also of note for those who keep an eye on city building projects, Catellus has been selected as the sole finalist as master developer for the city’s Colony Park mixed-use development in Northeast Austin. City Council is expected to formally select the master developer for Colony Park later this fall.
