The league picks a side
Monday, April 25, 2016 by Elizabeth Pagano
Late last week, Austin’s League of Women Voters announced that it will join the “Our City, Our Safety, Our Choice” political action committee in opposition to Proposition 1, which will appear on the upcoming May 7 ballot. The organization’s full take on the matter is online here. That statement explains that although the ballot language may be confusing, “The current law that our city council passed after a year of deliberations addresses safety measures for our citizens regarding (transportation network companies’) operations in Austin. They have never asked any TNC to leave Austin and, indeed, spent time trying to work with them, but the TNCs were not interested in compromise.”
