The award goes to …
Monday, January 8, 2018 by Caleb Pritchard
He’s had a stint in Major League Baseball and helped open one of Austin’s most popular homegrown restaurants, and he’s now in his third term as the Travis County Commissioners Court representative from Precinct 3. Now Gerald Daugherty can add one more triumph to his resume: an Emmy award. Strictly speaking, the honor – which is technically a Lone Star Regional Emmy Award – goes to Steve Mims of KC Strategies, the outfit that produced the 2016 campaign ad that made Daugherty and his wife, Charlyn, viral stars. Nonetheless, Daugherty got his hands on the statue and was so proud of it that he burst into the middle of the Austin Monitor’s one-on-one interview with County Judge Sarah Eckhardt to show it off. When the Monitor asked where he planned to keep the surprisingly heavy piece of hardware, Eckhardt had a killer suggestion: right on the dais during court meetings.
