TCAD revives informal tax meetings
Wednesday, January 22, 2020 by Jo Clifton
The Travis Central Appraisal District will once again offer property owners the option of having in-person informal conferences with appraisers as part of the 2020 protest process. Last year, TCAD did away with the informal hearings, resulting in thousands and thousands more formal hearings than the district has ever dealt with in the past. According to a news release from TCAD, the informal in-person conference meetings are expected to begin in early April and will be offered until May 30. While most meetings will occur at the TCAD office (8314 Cross Park Drive), the agency is exploring a pilot program to host additional meetings at local Travis County Community Centers. A group of property owners who never received appraisal hearings in 2020 are continuing to pursue their lawsuit against TCAD. According to that suit, at least 138 property owners who requested hearings last year are still waiting to hear when they might have a chance to protest their 2019 values.
