Stonewall Dems announce endorsements

Tuesday, February 2, 2016 by Nora Ankrum

Ahead of the March 1 Democratic primary elections, the Stonewall Democrats of Austin have announced their endorsements for those candidates they believe “would best represent the interests of the LGBT community.” Not all races are represented among the endorsements, according to the group’s announcement, because not all candidates drew the required support – 60 percent of the voting membership. In those races where more than one candidate drew enough support, dual endorsements were issued. The full list of endorsements is available here. Below is an abbreviated version:

  • U.S. Representatives:
    • CD 10: Scot Gallaher
    • CD 17: William Matta
    • CD 35: Lloyd Doggett
  • Constables:
    • Precinct 1: Rick Schumacher
    • Precinct 3: Anthony “AJ” Johnson & Stacy Suits (dual)
    • Precinct 4: Manuel Jimenez & George Morales (dual)
    • Precinct 5: Carlos Lopez
  • Other:
    • District Attorney: Gary Cobb
    • Sheriff: Sally Hernandez & John Sisson (dual)
    • County Tax Assessor-Collector: Bruce Elfant
    • Commissioner, Precinct 1: James Nortey
