Red River welcomes new installation
Monday, August 14, 2017 by Nina Hernandez
The corner of Ninth and Red River streets is now the home of an installation celebrating Austin music called “There’s More to ‘Texas Music.’” It’s the work of artist Tim Kerr in collaboration with longtime Austin music writer Michael Corcoran. Eight Austin musical luminaries from the 1920s to the 1960s are now part of the exterior wall of Stubb’s BBQ. Those immortalized include jazz guitarist Oscar Moore, “piano pounder” Arizona Dranes and Blind George McClain. This piece is one of three brought to the Red River Cultural District in the last month, as part of an overarching effort to enhance the district.
