New water main lane closure updates
Friday, July 8, 2016 by Kayleigh Hughes
The Downtown Reclaimed Water Transmission Main project continues to chug steadily along, with workers beginning a major step this month — the construction of the main directly under Lady Bird Lake. Lane closures for this part of the project are as follows: West Fifth Street at San Antonio Street will be reduced to one lane from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday, July 9 and Sunday, July 10. San Antonio Street itself will be reduced to one lane southbound, between Fifth and Sixth streets, through July 26. Over on Red River Street, there will be lane closures between Ninth and 10th streets until July 16. And finally, at Trinity Street and MLK Boulevard, the eastbound lanes of MLK will be closed, with traffic in both directions shifting to the north side of the street. Both sides of MLK will reopen on the morning of Monday, July 11. When the entire water main is complete, it will carry reclaimed water from Butler Park to the reclaimed water tower at the Mueller Development, providing service to UT Austin, the Capitol Complex, downtown and Butler Park.
