Help MACC plan 2018 tribute
Wednesday, December 13, 2017 by Katy McElroy
The Emma S. Barrientos Mexican American Cultural Center is hosting an interactive community forum to gather input on 2018’s Sor Juana Ines de la Cruz: A Tribute to Women event. Held for the first time in 2009 in partnership with the National Museum of Mexican Art in Chicago, the event has been a yearly occurrence for the center; this year, the organizers are opening the planning process up to the community for ideas. Sor Juana was a 17th-century Mexican nun who was a poet, mathematician and playwright in a time when women were discouraged from pursuing intellectual interests. To participate, head to the center at 600 River St. this Thursday evening, from 7 to 9 p.m.
