County Dems respond to Prop A text campaign
Wednesday, October 13, 2021 by Elizabeth Pagano
The Travis County Democratic Party has denounced a series of text messages sent to Austin voters. The messages, sent in support of Proposition A and purporting to be from the nonexistent “Austin Democratic Party,” claim that the mandatory police staffing measure has the support of area Democrats. In a statement released Tuesday, TCDP Chair Katie Naranjo explains that the party, along with more than 100 other Democratic, labor and criminal justice groups, actively opposes the ballot proposition and that any messaging to the contrary is “part of an intentional misinformation campaign.” Naranjo continues, “The Republican Party and Matt Mackowiak know the only way they can win an election in Travis County is with lies. Democrats stand firmly against Prop A.” Early voting for the Nov. 2 election begins Monday, Oct. 18.
