Celebrate World Environmental Day with art and culture

For those looking for a fun, educational and art-inspired activity this weekend, the Emma S. Barrientos Mexican American Cultural Center invites Austinites to a free, family-friendly environmental day event on June 18. The event will celebrate World Environmental Day and feature a temporary land art installations by artist Mery Godigna Collet. Collet’s installation, Let’s Talk in Volume, which highlights consumption of crude oil, will be on display in the ESB-MACC courtyard from June 18 to Nov. 25, and her work Petro-Poems will be in the center’s gallery over the weekend. The World Environmental Day event will take place from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the ESB-MACC and will feature music by Horizontes DJ Michael Crockett along with a demonstration of how to crochet with recycled plastic materials by artist Seph Itz.
