Car2Go goes
Monday, September 30, 2019 by Elizabeth Pagano
In case you missed it, Car2Go has announced that it will cease Austin operations effective Oct. 31, though its North American headquarters will remain here. The company will close up shop in Calgary, Denver and Portland at the same time, and in Chicago on Dec. 31. In a blog post about the closure, Maximilian Ehlers wrote, “This decision was not made lightly. We have had to face the hard reality that despite our efforts, we underestimated the investment and resources that are truly necessary to make our service successful in these complex transportation markets amid a quickly changing mobility landscape. … Ultimately, we know that in order to ensure the future of our business in North America, we have to think differently about where and how we operate.” He goes on to say that the company will be “refocusing our efforts and our resources on the cities that present the clearest path to free-floating carshare success: New York City, Washington D.C., Montreal, Vancouver and Seattle.”
