Austin families to receive refurbished city computers
Thursday, December 12, 2019 by Tai Moses
The nonprofit PCs for People is teaming up with the city’s Community Technology Services team to give several hundred refurbished city computers to new homes identified by the Housing Authority of Austin, Austin ISD and the Community Tech Network: 300 families with school-aged kids who are living below 200 percent of the federal poverty limit and who don’t have a computer at home. Each family will get a desktop computer, monitor, keyboard and mouse, along with a quick tutorial on how it all works, for only $25. The families will be picking up their computers from Houston Elementary School on Friday afternoon. The news release adds, “The Community Technology Services team also provides refurbished computers, as available, year-round to local nonprofits focused on digital inclusion and increasing the digital literacy of Austin residents. Interested organizations can request devices via the application form.”
