AISD restarts weekend meal program
Friday, April 24, 2020 by Tai Moses
In good news for AISD families that depend on school meals to supplement what’s available for the kids at home, the district has resumed its free weekend meal program. Schools are still closed, but families with students under the age of 19 are eligible to pick up a package of six healthy meals – three precooked breakfasts and three lunches – distributed Fridays at more than 70 locations. The district suggests families brings bags to carry the meals home. Parents picking up meals without their child present must bring documentation, such as the child’s report card, birth certificate, student ID card, attendance record, or an official letter of enrollment. To maintain a safe physical distance, parents are asked to tape the documents to the car window or dashboard so staff may see them from the curb. A list of curbside meal sites and a full map of all meal delivery sites can be found on the AISD website.
