AISD puts the brakes on school transfers
Wednesday, December 21, 2016 by Nina Hernandez
Twenty-three Austin Independent School District schools are at or near capacity and will be closed to transfers for the 2017-18 academic year. Those include Aikins, Bowie, Lanier and McCallum high schools, three middle schools and 16 elementary schools. Overcrowding due to out-of-district transfers has been a problem for AISD for a while. It had to implement a similar freeze in 2014 in order to stabilize enrollment and “maintain stability in tracking patterns.” To request a transfer to a school that does have space, submit an application to the district’s Office of Student Services (in person, by mail or by fax). Learn more about the transfer process at www.austinisd.org/transfer.
