AIPP to host Party for the People

Thursday, November 5, 2015 by Nora Ankrum

In celebration of its 30th anniversary, Art in Public Places announced this week that it will be hosting a Sunday afternoon pop-up party on Nov. 15 from 2 to 4 p.m. According to an announcement from AIPP, the event was “conceived by artists Roberto Behar and Rosario Marquardt as a social sculpture – a place of encounters and a stage for everyday stories to unfold.” Called AIPP 30: Party for the People, the family-friendly outdoor event takes place at Open Room Austin and will feature “small surprises” provided by the Long Center for the Performing Arts, the ABC Zilker Kite Festival, the Austin Chamber Music Center, ACL Live and ZACH Theatre. “For 30 years, the City of Austin has been commissioning, maintaining, guiding and enlivening hundreds of public spaces via Art in Public Places,” according to the announcement. In keeping with that achievement, Party for the People aims to “show citizens how public art can make everyday moments marvelous.”
