TipSheet: This week’s Council committees

As part of our ongoing effort to keep readers up to date with all that is going on at City Hall, we present our tipsheet for Austin City Council committees. This week is an ultra-short one, with only the Economic Opportunity Committee meeting.
Economic Opportunity Committee
3. 4:00 PM: Consider and develop a recommendation regarding Fair Chance Hiring Practices concerning the use of conviction history in hiring and fair chance hiring practices by private employers in the City of Austin.
Monitor’s take: We wrote about this push – better known as “Ban the Box” – in September. The Economic Opportunity Committee will take up the issue again, with the intent to develop recommendations for City Council.
4. Consider and develop a recommendation on the Convention Center’s Long-Range Master Plan.
Monitor’s take: A proposal to expand the Convention Center is already floating around City Hall. Now that proposal, in the form of a master plan, is seeking committee acceptance on the way to the full City Council.
