Early Vote shows Shade in trouble
Saturday, May 14, 2011 by Austin Monitor
With the Early Vote counted shortly after 7pm, challenger Kathie Tovo had a strong lead over incumbent Council Member Randi Shade in the Place 3 race. In a very low turnout election, Tovo had slightly more than 43 percent to Shade’s less than 34 percent. Max Nofziger drew 15.38 percent.
This means that Shade would have to make up 1,349 votes among those voting
on Election Day.
The other incumbents appeared to be cruising to victory. Chris Riley had more than 64 percent of the Early Vote and Laura Morrison had more than 70 percent of the 14,865 votes reported tonight.
It could be a long night for Shade and her supporters.
In the Riley’s Place 1 contest, Roger Chan was the strongest challenger, but pulled less than 25 percent of the Early Vote. In the Place 4 contest, which Morrison seems to be winning handily, newcomer Eric Rangel got just less than 21 percent of the Early Vote and radio DJ K. Toby Ryan Hill got a little less than 9 percent.
