Monday, February 11, 2008 by Austin Monitor

Paul Hilgers, director of Neighborhood Housing and Community Development, for the City of Austin, is resigning his position to become deputy general manager of the Pedernales Electric Cooperative (PEC).

Hilgers announced his resignation in a memo to City Manager Toby Futrell today. He told In Fact Daily he would start his new job at the PEC on March 17.

Hilgers will be joining Juan Garza, who took over duties as general manager of the PEC on Monday. Garza was general manager of Austin Energy before assuming leadership of the troubled co-op.

Hilgers started working for the city in August 1997 after three years with the Lower Colorado River Authority and a more then nine years with Congressman J.J. Jake Pickle.
