What can MLS do for you?

The city has scheduled a community information session for 6 p.m. Thursday at the Central Library, to give residents a chance to learn more and discuss the possible community benefits associated with the proposed construction of a stadium for professional soccer in North Austin. The session follows a decision last month by City Council to begin negotiating with Precourt Sports Ventures on a possible deal to use city-owned property at McKalla Place to construct the stadium, which if built would become the home of a Major League Soccer team. The city is looking for input on the community benefits that should be considered as part of the negotiation process, which is expected to last until the beginning of August. Council is expected to consider a possible land use deal for McKalla Place at its Aug. 9 meeting. An updated summary of the McKalla Place project, including the ability to submit plans for possible other uses of the property, is available at www.austintexas.gov/mckalla.
