Weis abruptly exits Seattle utility job
Wednesday, December 6, 2017 by Jo Clifton
Former Austin Energy General Manager Larry Weis, who left Austin to take over as CEO and general manager of Seattle City Light, has left his job less than two years after taking the reins. According to the Seattle Times, Mayor Jenny Durkan, who took office on Nov. 28, said Monday that she and Weis had reached what the newspaper called a “mutual decision” that it was time for him to go. The newspaper cited the mayor’s dissatisfaction with problems the Seattle utility had experienced with billing. In addition, some employees had complained about sexual harassment in the workplace and said that Weis did not address those complaints. Some members of the Seattle City Council also told the Times they were displeased by his comments to the Austin American-Statesman criticizing the Austin City Council when he left Austin Energy.
