The city has hired Jorge Morales to be the next director of the Watershed Protection Department. According to a city announcement, Morales “has 17 years of experience as a civil engineer in CIP project delivery and is a licensed Professional Engineer and Certified Floodplain Manager. He most recently served as the Assistant Director of Public Works at the City of Austin over Engineering and Project Delivery. He is a former Sergeant of Communications in the U.S. Army and remains an active servant leader. He has held multiple leadership and volunteer positions in his community including the Garland, TX Planning and Zoning Commission, professional development organizations, and as a school volunteer.” Morales, who starts his new position Oct. 28, said “I’m honored to return to the Watershed Protection Department where I started my engineering career as a student intern over 20 years ago. I look forward to working closely with all the dedicated employees at Watershed to protect and restore our incredible water resources and environment.”
