Water utility has water tips
Wednesday, July 6, 2016 by Elizabeth Pagano
It’s officially summer in Austin, and as a help, the Austin Water utility is encouraging its customers (aka: you) to be “extra waterwise” now that our wet spring is behind us. A very informative missive from the utility explains, “Water usage always increases as the summer months heat up. Last year, however, when a wet spring was followed by a very hot July and August, spikes in water usage were much higher than normal. For example: Last year overall water usage for July was 37% higher than May, compared to around 15% the previous three years; and the difference between May and August last year was 62%, compared to an average 25% increase the previous three years.” If you remember, last year’s May was also wet, and the utility is weirdly banking on the fact that the next few months are “of course almost certainly going to be extremely hot.” So take heed, readers, and monitor your outside watering, irrigation and indoor water usage.
