Travillion joins CAMPO board

Wednesday, January 11, 2017 by Caleb Pritchard

Four-fifths of the Travis County Commissioners Court will soon be colleagues on the Capital Area Metropolitan Planning Organization’s Transportation Policy Board. On Tuesday, the court unanimously voted to send newly minted Commissioner Jeff Travillion to the important transportation planning body. He’ll join fellow commissioners Brigid Shea and Gerald Daugherty along with County Judge Sarah Eckhardt at the board’s monthly meetings. Per CAMPO’s constitution, Travis County sends three members of the court to the TPB and also one discretionary pick, who, until Tuesday, had most recently been Lakeway Mayor Joe Bain. In December, the court had the option to reappoint Bain without considering anyone else. However, Travillion, then still a commissioner-elect, lobbied the court to issue a call for applications in order to consider a diverse pool of candidates. On Tuesday, the court switched course again and voted unanimously to give Travillion the job. Daugherty welcomed Travillion to the role by making a joking reference to CAMPO’s reputation for late-night meetings. “I mean, you might want to come do a practice run and then let us know whether you really want to do it,” teased Daugherty.
