Tovo pushes to restore AE weatherization funding
Friday, September 7, 2018 by Jack Craver
Shortly after the Austin Monitor reported that Austin Energy has proposed cutting the budget for a program to weatherize apartment buildings throughout the city, Mayor Pro Tem Kathie Tovo said at a City Council budget work session that she would push to maintain the program’s current funding. Mayor Steve Adler referenced the argument the utility has made that the budget cut is simply a response to a lack of demand from multifamily property owners. However, he suggested he was receptive to either side of the argument. “Staff was saying it was a demand issue. If that argument is being made, I’d like to understand that better,” he said.
