South Central Waterfront plan brings home sustainability award
Thursday, May 11, 2017 by Nina Hernandez
The city has won the Award for Excellence in Sustainability from the American Planning Association’s Sustainable Communities Division for its work on the South Central Waterfront Vision Framework Plan. Enacted last summer, the South Central Waterfront Initiative is a vision for the development of the area along Lady Bird Lake in the next two decades. The association’s Sustainable Communities Division gives awards to “projects, plans, policies, individuals, and organizations whose work is dedicated to supporting and growing sustainable communities.” Austin was one of five cities to be announced as award winners at the association’s National Planning Conference in New York City on Monday, May 8.
