School zones return
Tuesday, August 16, 2016 by Nora Ankrum
Motorists beware: School may not be back in session, but school zones are. The Austin Transportation Department begins testing Austin’s 576 school zone traffic signals this week in preparation for school to start on Monday. The department will conduct the tests during the regularly scheduled school-zone hours. These times can vary slightly from zone to zone but typically take place in the morning, between 6:45 and 8 a.m., and in the afternoon, between 2:30 and 3:30 p.m. Signal testing is scheduled to take place on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday, so drivers should be on the lookout for school zone signs and be prepared to slow down.
