Revisit the history of baseball in Austin

Wednesday, March 29, 2017 by Nina Hernandez

Learn about the rich history of baseball in Austin at the Play Ball! Austin and the Great American Pastime photography exhibit at the Austin History Center’s David Earl Holt Photo Gallery. Made up of 22 photographs from the center’s vast collection, the exhibit chronicles some of the 150-year love affair between the city and the sport. Besides hosting major league exhibitions over the years, “Austin has also made baseball greats of its own,” according to a Monday press release. “Willie Wells and Hilton Smith, players with the Austin Black Senators, were inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1997 and 2001, respectively.” Catch the collection through Aug. 13.
