Pop star Janet Jackson not appearing at AISD event

Tuesday, January 24, 2017 by Nina Hernandez

Yesterday afternoon, some music-loving news junkies were momentarily energized by the news that Janet Jackson would be appearing at an Austin Independent School District event this morning. Sadly, the Janet Jackson scheduled to speak at the AISD Choice Rally – an event to promote the specialized programs the district offers – is not the well-known pop star, but rather the grandmother of one of the featured students. An AISD representative acknowledged the coincidence, saying Jackson is one of several community members invited to share how the ability to transfer to a specific AISD school has affected them. “It is her real name, but it is not Janet Jackson (the singer). We’re all disappointed as well.” The event takes place this morning (Jan. 24) at 9:30 a.m. at the Anderson High School gymnasium, 8403 Mesa Drive.
