Police oversight forums scheduled
Wednesday, September 12, 2018 by Elizabeth Pagano
The city’s Office of the Police Monitor has scheduled a series of three community forums to let residents give their thoughts on the recommendations of the Police Oversight Advisory Working Group. At the forums attendees can learn about the recommendations and offer their feedback on how the civilian board should work to keep tabs on the Austin Police Department. The first forum will take place 6-7 p.m., Sept. 19 at Our Lady of Guadalupe Parish on E. Ninth St. The second will be held 11 a.m. to noon on Sept. 22 at the Gus Garcia Recreation Center on E. Rundberg Lane, and the final forum will run 6-7 p.m. on Sept. 25 at Greater Mount Zion Church on Tannehill Lane. In March, City Council directed the city manager to develop best practices for oversight of the city’s police, with those recommendations serving as the basis of these forums. For more information on the monitor’s office and the oversight process, visit the city’s website here.
