Police launch Labor Day no-refusal initiative
Monday, August 21, 2017 by Nina Hernandez
The Austin Police Department announced another Labor Day No-Refusal DWI Enforcement Initiative last week. It started Friday night and goes all the way until the early morning hours of Tuesday, Sept. 5. Essentially, during this time police will conduct blood search warrants in cases when a driver suspected of being intoxicated refuses field sobriety or blood tests. “No Refusal ensures that we have solid blood alcohol content evidence of every arrest and as such enhances our ability to prosecute people who drive drunk and put others in danger,” said Lt. Blake Johnson. The city has a list of sober driving options, including taxis and ride-sharing apps, on its website.
