Plaza Saltillo rezoning almost postponed again

Thursday, October 27, 2016 by Joseph Caterine

Kelan Robinson, an architect representing the applicant for the future Plaza Saltillo redevelopment, rushed to the podium at the Oct. 25 Planning Commission meeting to protest another postponement of the rezoning application to the commission’s Dec. 13 meeting. Heather Chaffin, the project’s case manager from the Planning and Zoning Department, said that staff members recommended that the Plaza Saltillo items be postponed at least to the Nov. 8 meeting, because they needed more time to finalize the traffic impact analysis. Robinson noted that the case had already been postponed three times and that postponing it until December could cause “complications.” Commissioner Nuria Zaragoza said she understood that it was difficult for the applicant, “but knowing the complexity of this tract, I’d like to have a presentation rather than judging just from a backup.” Commissioner Tom Nuckols said that he would like to hear public comment as well. After some more discussion, Commissioner Stephen Oliver closed the talks by suggesting that the items be left on the November meeting’s agenda and that the commission could decide what to do then.

This story has been corrected to reflect the fact that Kelan Robinson, not Ken Johnson, spoke at the Planning Commission Tuesday.
