Last month, as you may have heard, Uber left Austin. Imagine, then, the surprise that some (former, Austin) drivers felt when they opened their inbox Wednesday and found a cheery message from the company, inviting them to drive to the X Games this weekend. The message, which bore the subject line, “Buckle Up” read, “X Games Austin is taking place this weekend at Circuit of the Americas, and we have a dedicated pickup/dropoff spot just for you! Circuit of the Americas falls outside Austin City Limits, which means you can take advantage of the tens of thousands of extreme sports enthusiasts and earn BIG!” While this email would have been accurate in 2011, the city annexed the racetrack in 2012, making it very much within Austin’s city limits.
