New process for public information requests

Thanks to a new state law intended to increase transparency in government, there is a new process for requesting public records from the city of Austin. Effective Sept. 1, all emailed public information requests, including requests for the Austin Police Department, must be sent to public.information@austintexas.gov. Faxed requests will no longer be accepted. Members of the public may request information electronically through the city’s Public Information Request Portal. One may also hand-deliver a request for information to Austin Police Department Headquarters or to City Hall, 4th floor, or mail it to Austin Police Department Central Records/Open Records, PO Box 689001, Austin, Texas, 78768-9001.
