Mayor to declare today Craig Smith Day
Thursday, March 31, 2016 by Jo Clifton
Mayor Steve Adler will recognize the tireless efforts of Craig Smith to promote and protect Barton Springs and the Barton Springs Zone Regional Water Quality Protection Plan at 5:30 p.m. today during the City Council meeting. Smith has served on the board of directors of the Barton Springs/Edwards Aquifer Conservation District since 1998. According to the proclamation as well as people who keep up with water conservation efforts, “Over the past 10 years, Craig Smith has worked tirelessly to keep the plan alive and relevant by organizing, facilitating and documenting bimonthly meetings of the Barton Springs Zone Regional Water Quality Protection Plan working group.” The proclamation further says, “Watersheds and aquifers do not recognize political boundaries, and neither has Craig Smith in his efforts and continued leadership to promote regional collaboration and communication in protecting the Edwards Aquifer and Barton Springs.” In addition to being an avid Barton Springs swimmer, Smith is also an assistant county attorney for Travis County.
