Holly Shores Working Group dissolved

Friday, September 29, 2017 by Jessi Devenyns

For over a year, the Holly Shores Working Group of the Parks and Recreation Board met monthly to assist with the implementation of the Holly Shores/Edward Rendon Sr. Park at Festival Beach Master Plan. With $3 million to spend judiciously on improvements, board Vice Chair Richard DePalma said that the intention behind the formation of the working group was to “help work with community and staff to spend that money quickly and efficiency.” Recently, however, staff told the Parks and Recreation Board that the working group would no longer receive support. Now, any questions about the project must be directed through Parks and Recreation staff. DePalma said that ideally, the Parks and Recreation Board would reinstate the working group as it was originally, but that without the support system intact, there is no reason to maintain the working group as it is. The Parks and Recreation board voted unanimously to dissolve the Holly Shores Working Group at its meeting on Sept. 26.
