Grove gets special postponement

Friday, November 11, 2016 by Elizabeth Pagano

Though City Council didn’t take up the Grove at Shoal Creek PUD on Thursday, they (naturally) couldn’t resist a discussion about it anyway. In the end, Council opted to postpone the case to a special called meeting on Dec. 6. The decision was not without some controversy, however. A request to hold the meeting on a different day in order to accommodate the schedule of the lead spokesperson for the neighborhood was jettisoned in favor of having all of the Council members present. Mayor Pro Tem Kathie Tovo expressed concern about the idea of adding a special called meeting “to take up one zoning case at the request of a developer because they want to finish on a certain timetable” and the precedent it would set. Mayor Steve Adler said that he thought this was “a unique case and a unique situation” and pointed out that the postponement was, after all, at the request of the neighborhood, not the developer.
