Gotta adopt ’em all!
Friday, July 15, 2016 by Kayleigh Hughes
Pokémon fever has officially spread across Austin, and the Austin Animal Center located at 7201 Levander Loop is hoping to capitalize on the city’s love of cute animals — both real and virtual — at its July 16 “PokéParty.” The animal center is home to a PokéGym, where players can battle, as well as four Pokéstops, where players can collect more tools for catching and battling with Pokémon. Of the AAC’s Pokéstop and gym status, Deputy Chief Animal Services Officer Lee Ann Shenefiel said, “Luckily, our campus is already attracting players, but we want folks to come in and get to know our dogs, too.” To celebrate and encourage dog adoption, the location will be dropping Lure Modules, which lure Pokémon to a specific area, from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. this Saturday, July 16. Players are encouraged to photograph their Pokémon alongside shelter dogs and post the photos to social media with the hashtag #AustinAnimalCenter. Additionally, noted Shenefiel, “Simply show our Adoption Counselor your photo of a Pokémon and a dog and you could win a prize or a free adoption.” You can find more information on the AAC’s website.
