Festival celebrates East 12th and Chicon
Friday, April 14, 2017 by Nina Hernandez
The long-awaited Return and Discover East 12th Street Spring Festival finally happens this Saturday, April 15. The celebration begins at 2 p.m. at the intersection of 12th and Chestnut with a procession led by the Interrobang Brass Band that will end up at 12th and Chicon. The East 12th Street Merchants Association, which is hosting the event, wants the broader Austin community to know is thriving and open for business. After the procession, attendees can take part in a host of daytime activities until 6 p.m., including a scavenger hunt, community speakers, exhibitors, vendors and much, much more. At 8:30 p.m., the old Harlem Theater at 12th and Salina hosts a film screening. Take some time to visit with the Capital Metropolitan Transporation Authority officials, who will be on-hand to hear community feedback about the 12th & Chicon bus stop redesign, a public art project to honor the African-American history in the area.
