Ellis proposes new partnership for Zilker Zephyr
Wednesday, February 12, 2020 by Tai Moses
An Austin City Council member has proposed a new arrangement that would ensure continued operation of the Zilker Zephyr miniature train ride. Council Member Paige Ellis’ resolution directs the city manager to hammer out an agreement with the Austin Parks Foundation to find a new vendor for the popular ride, which Ellis called “a beloved Austin institution.” Net proceeds from the partnership would be shared out with nonprofits in and around Zilker Park. Ellis says such a partnership would benefit the entire community. “Austinites and visitors of all ages have fond memories of visiting the ride as part of their Zilker Park experience. We need to do what we can to ensure that this ride is repaired and running safely as soon as possible.” The train ride has been out of commission since severe weather damaged the tracks last May.
