Downtown will be booming over the next few weeks with spring festival season underway
Tuesday, March 14, 2023 by Bob Sechler
There will be no shortage of things to do in Austin over the coming weeks now that spring festival season is in full swing. Here’s a rundown of upcoming events:
- SXSW: March 10-19
- Rodeo Austin: March 10-25
- Dell Match Play World Golf Championship: March 22-26
- Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays: March 29-April 1
- ABC Kite Festival: April 1
- Austin Urban Cultural Festival: April 1
The city is cautioning commuters to expect delays amid the booming activity downtown. Road closures and detours should be expected while South by Southwest is underway. Officials also are advising those attending SXSW and the other events to make plans to get home safely if they’ve been drinking, by leaving their parked cars and seeking alternative rides home. If you receive a parking ticket under such circumstances, you might be eligible to get it waived if you save your receipt from your safe ride home and fill out the online Get Home Safe Ticket Waiver Form, according to the city.
In addition, the Austin Transportation Department has created a downloadable map, as well as an interactive map, to make it easier to get around the city during festival season. The map includes information about parking areas for scooters and shared bicycles, ride-share staging areas and Capital Metro stops. It also highlights detours and road closures, which began March 10 to coincide with the start of SXSW.
Following is the city’s “Spring fest ATX mobility guide map,” highlighting detours, ride-share drop-off locations, transit stops and shared mobility corrals:
