Council’s version of a weekend retreat
Thursday, April 14, 2016 by Nora Ankrum
City Council may soon conclude the ongoing evaluation of the city manager, possibly wrapping up the process with a Council retreat proposed Tuesday on the City Council Message Board by Mayor Steve Adler. “The first morning we would complete our forward looking conversation with the Manager concerning management generally,” he writes. “That afternoon, we would meet in open session to discuss the Council’s priorities for the City and for ourselves. This conversation would continue the following morning.” The day-and-a-half retreat would be followed up by a final meeting during which Council would “finalize” the evaluation and “set goals and measures that would serve as the starting point for next year’s performance review.” As of Wednesday night, only Council Member Leslie Pool had responded to the mayor’s request for feedback on when to hold the retreat. She suggested “a full day Friday and a half-day Saturday … UNLESS our Council meeting ends after 10 p.m. the night before.” Alternatively, she wrote, “I’d suggest the half-day start Friday afternoon with a full day on a Saturday.”
