Council considers Habitat for Humanity proposal
Thursday, August 17, 2017 by Nina Hernandez
Keep an eye out at today’s City Council meeting for a proposal that would give Habitat for Humanity permission to build a cluster of affordable housing in East Austin. Council Member Pio Renteria sponsored the resolution making changes to the Plaza Saltillo Transit-Oriented Development Area Regulating Plan, which clears the way for the project. Council members praised the development and Habitat for Humanity’s commitment to making 75 percent of the units affordable. “(Habitat for Humanity is) looking to provide even higher affordability levels than the current Plaza Saltillo TOD Plan enables them to,” said Renteria in a Tuesday press release. “So I’m thankful for the support my colleagues have offered to create these opportunities.”
