Council approves mortgage fraud resolution

Friday, September 2, 2016 by Elizabeth Pagano

Even though a resolution to fight mortgage fraud passed fairly quietly yesterday (on consent, actually), City Council Member Delia Garza took a moment out of a long workday to tout the measure’s approval. The resolution directs staff to start working with other agencies to tackle the problem, which was brought to Garza’s attention by reports of mortgage fraud in Dove Springs, according to a press release from her office. “It’s a tragedy when a family loses their home because they were misled during the buying process,” said Garza, in that release. “We should do everything in our power to prevent that from happening as well as make sure families have recourse if it does happen.” The resolution directs staff to return to Council in 90 days with recommendations on further action.
