CodeNEXT prescription papers get a dose of criticism

Thursday, September 15, 2016 by Elizabeth Pagano

If you’ve burned through all of the CodeNEXT prescription papers already and are left wondering WhatsNEXT to read, fear not! The city of Austin’s Planning Commissioners have been diligently reading through the papers themselves, and their responses to the papers on the city’s “natural and built environments,” affordability and mobility are online for your reading pleasure now. Though the commissioners acknowledge that their feedback won’t have an impact on the papers, Chair Steve Oliver introduces their comments by noting that, because the prescriptions “do not sufficiently address how the code will respect or resolve competing values going forward,” the commission feels that there is plenty more discussion ahead. Needless to say, the critique is worth a read.
