City unveils West Avenue extension today
Friday, August 4, 2017 by Nina Hernandez
Part of downtown Austin is going to look a little different today, and that’s because the city is opening up the extension of West Avenue to Cesar Chavez Street. There’ll also be a fancy new traffic signal at that intersection to keep everything orderly. The project was intended as a balm to traffic problems in the area surrounding the new Central Library, which is due to open (finally!) later this year. According to a Thursday press release, “The Central Library project also includes the design and construction of a new bridge over Shoal Creek at 2nd Street and extension of 2nd Street from Shoal Creek to West Avenue.”
