City seeks to extend Muny agreement
Monday, January 27, 2020 by Jo Clifton
The city of Austin has requested that the University of Texas extend the lease agreement between the two that has allowed the city to continue to operate the historic Lions Municipal Golf Course. In a letter to Kirk Tames of the University’s real estate office, Andrew Linseisen, the City liaison on the Brackenridge development agreement, which includes Muny, requested that the university allow the city to continue its lease on a month-to-month basis. He also requested a five-month notice of cancellation for both parties. Referring to the agreement allowing for the realignment of Red River Street to facilitate construction of the Moody Center, a new basketball and performance arena, Linseisen said the city was hoping to collaborate with UT to explore a number of opportunities for partnership. Those might include work to provide affordable and workforce housing, corridor alignments in the university area and preservation of open space and park land. The letter was dated January 23.
