Council approves paid sick leave resolution
Friday, September 29, 2017 by Elizabeth Pagano
Austin took a step closer to securing paid sick days for employees across the city yesterday. City Council voted unanimously to approve a resolution sponsored by Council Member Greg Casar that would require employers in Austin to provide paid sick days for their employees. The resolution kicks off a stakeholder process, with the stated aim of enacting a policy in February. “I think this is a very powerful opportunity to create a more free and a more just city and economy,” said Casar. “I think we can vote yes today, and just one more vote in February and we can improve the lives of hundreds of thousands of working families here in Austin.” Council Member Ellen Troxclair was absent for the vote.
