City and county extend guidelines

Monday, May 11, 2020 by Elizabeth Pagano

The city of Austin and Travis County extended their stay-at-home guidelines Friday morning. Though both Travis County Judge Sarah Eckhardt and Mayor Steve Adler have expressed reservations about reopening businesses this early, the new orders are in line with those from Gov. Abbott that have allowed salons to reopen and will allow some gyms and offices to open on May 18. Those state regulations take precedence over local ones, but Adler and Eckhardt asked Austinites to continue to social distance, wear facial coverings and limit nonessential activities while their orders remain in effect. Austin’s order will expire May 30, and Travis County’s on June 15. Both orders and state orders may be revised if local cases of Covid-19 increase.
